The Richard Wagner Society in Karlsruhe has decided to hold the next International Singing Competition of Wagner Voices 2012 in Karlsruhe once again after its great success in 2009. The city of Karlsruhe and the Badisches Staatstheater have again pledged their full support.
Ms Eva Wagner-Pasquier, director of the Bayreuth Festival, supports the International Singing Competition 2012 and has agreed to take over the chairmanship of the jury once more.
This competition seeks to discover singers who have the potential of becoming Wagner singing experts following special voice training and stage experience. The competition is open to singers who are either at the end of their vocal training (no older than 30 years) or at the beginning of their stage careers (no older than 35 years).
The prize money has been increased for 2012. The 1st prize will be 5,000 €, the 2nd prize, the “Wolfgang Wagner Prize” will be 3,000 € and the Dorothea Glatt Sponsorship Award will be 2,500 €. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive 1,000 €. All six finalists will receive an additional prize of 2,000 €.
Following the preliminary rounds in May and August 2012, Semi-finals will be held on October 11th and Finals on October 13th 2010 at the Badisches Staatstheater and will be open to the public.
